Happy Labor Day! No rest for the weary, though! We're coloring the town BLUE and/or GREEN! It's the first Color Bowl challenge. Let's see the main color of your card in this color group. Blue, Green, Aqua, Turquoise, Navy, Jade, Emerald, etc. There's bound to be something for everyone in this group! Have fun! 

These colors are making me hungry - I'll be making a blueberry pie later :-) 

Here's a closeup of my project.  I painted white/black scrapbook paper with the new Martha Stewart glitter paints. Have you seen these? They're at Michael's. I bought several colors and I just LOVE them! The digital image is Butterfly Moments from Ashley Summers. The butterflies are handmade from aluminum foil.

papertrey ink inspiration {June 2011 blog hop}

 
 

I haven't had the channce to play along with the Papertrey Ink blog hops these past few months, but I did get a few minutes to play along this month.

We thought we would start a short inspirational series with the Blog Hops for the next few months as a fun way to spice things up!  This month we are providing you with a beautiful photo to help trigger some creative ideas with color!  This inspirational photo is just dreamy and it's the perfect thing to give you a creative jumpstart that will lead to nothing but fabulous results!  We look forward to seeing everyone's interpretations using this inspiration!

I was inspired by the rainbow colors, and those awesome silver hooks.  My card features a hand colored back ground, I used my Karat Aquarelle watercolor crayons.  The card base I used was my favorite italian cold pressed watercolor Fabriano Medioevalis notecards,  with matching envelopes. The butterflies are made from aluminum foil, that is debossed (the embossing folder is pressed into the design).  The steps for these are:

1) find a scrap of cardstock, adhere aluminum foil to a square large enough for your project.   I like to use "heavy duty" foil, but the regular will work also.  I like to use a glue stick and cover the cardstock completely with adhesive and then adhere it to the aluminum foil.

2) Use your favorite cuttlebug embossing folder.  These are small, so I like to use something with alot of design - but play around!  You can de-boss (which is what I did) use the folder upside down for the impression pressed INTO the foil, or emboss and have the impression raised on the foil.

3) use your favorite die or a punch

Have you raided your kitchen yet?  One of my fav papercrafting supplies is aluminum foil.  If you missed it, last week I was featured on DIY showing off a use for aluminum foil!   In this card, aluminum foil is adhered to cardstock, I used alcohol inkers to color it and then the panel is run through an embossing machine (this one uses a cuttlebug folder).  They make lovely backgrounds for your cards.

In honor of school going back into session everywhere, we thought it would be fun to issue a Brown Bag Challenge.  We want to see what you can do to dress up, alter, change an ordinary brown lunch bag into a paper crafting work of art.  You could modify it to become a gift bag with handles, create a card base by folding it in half (complete with a slide out tag), add a window to it or whatever else you can dream up.  After the hop is though, we should all have plenty of inspiration to help us create amazing projects with inexpensive brown bags!  We look forward to seeing your creations!

Welcome, I have two projects for you tonight.  Our challenge this month was to use brown paper bags, chosen in honor of  "back to school".  I had several ideas ... but utlimately decided to use the brown paper bag as part of my embellishments.

 The first card features die cut flowers (these are PTI dies), I inked the edges in Hawaiian Shores ink - spritzed and crumpled together.  And in continuing the main theme, I decided to see what else I could find in the kitchen - and found this great white mesh.  Its from a bag of Laughing Cow lite baby bell wedges.  I think these flowers came out  great! 

In my second card, I used the brown paper bag die cut in the blossom and die cut with fillable frames #1, the sentiment is from Handwritten Notes.  In the "stuff from my kitchen" (my unofficial theme) I embosed an aluminum foil panel and I also used a bit of twine with the flowers.

TTIC53: The Transformation

 

The amazingly talented Alison brings us this week's challenge, this is what she writes:

I am so excited to be bringing you my second challenge! This one is a little different, because you get the opportunity to make yourself the subject! Spoiler alert! Don't continue reading if you haven't finished the Twilight Saga!!!

In Breaking Dawn, Bella transforms from human to vampire. In life, we all go through changes...though not as severe as Bella's! What kind of changes have you physically gone through? Cut off all your hair? Dye it blue (like me?)? Nose job? Pregnancy? Lost a lot of weight? We just celebrated Halloween... did you or someone you know wear a costume that transformed them to being unrecognizable?

Craft Challenge: Create something that narrates a physical change you've gone through

 

I feel a change coming on!  Do you ever feel that way?  Like there is change waiting to happen?   I have that feeling now and can only imagine that's how Bella felt.  I'm not comparing myself to Bella, I just can relate to that feeling that change is in the air! 

I had sooooo much fun with my challenge last week with paint chips, that I delved into my "stash" again.  I made two projects, one I was really happy with, the other I think I want to re-work a bit.  For the first one, I used the TTSC14 sketch challenge #14 - and an embossed foil panel.   I think the sketch was a great match for my card.   {This is the card I'm happy with}.

 

For my second project this week, I used the sketch challenge but changed the elements.  I used the paint chip inside the card and used my curvy rectangle nestability to to scallop the edge of the card so that the paint chip peeks out.  I wanted to do something in a bit different color scheme, so I used purple and red together. {this is the project I'd like to tweak a bit, I think there is something that's not quite flowing right with it}.

TTIC50 ~ Charlie

The amazingly talented paper crafter from down under ~ Donna ~ brings us our challenge topic this week:  Charlie.

" One of the best things about Charlie is that he doesn't hover"

Stephanie discribes Charlies personality and temperament in this one single sentence. But as we know his relationship with Bella slowly changes from strangers being thrown together in awkward situation to a bond that any father and daughter would be envious of.

Challenge Portion: Create a project, be it a card, layout or anything that would celebrate either Charlie's and Bella's relationship or the bond between your father or a father 'figure' in your life.

Comment Portion: Tell us about your relationship with your father or a father 'figure' who is or has been special to you.

I went with a quote I thought summed it all up:  We do no remember the days, we remember the moments".  It seemed to sum up Charlie's memories of Bella during the years where she only visited him on holidays and summers.  This is one more with the foiled background (I think this may be my new fav technique!).  This technique is very easy, cut some aluminum foil (I remember the days this was known as "tin foil") from your roll.  Use a piece of cardstock cut to your finished size underneath for support (this keeps the foil from caving back in after embossing).  I use a bit of tombo mono adhesive to hold the tinfoil attached the cardstock (your CS can be any color, you won't see it - so feel free to use your scraps!).   This is the time to add color to it with alcohol inks (I used the ranger handle with blending alcohol with  "denim" as well as "stream" alcohol inks).  Let dry and then run it through your embossing machine.

And how great was Charlie buying her the truck?  I felt that it was really thoughtful - getting her a vehicle of her own.  While she's not always fond of the truck (would that have been her first choice?) the truck it becomes an integral part of Bella - its hard for me to think of Bella and not think of that old red, slighlty rusty truck.   So in homage to the truck, I'm reposting one of my cards from last year featuring "the truck".

Home is where the heart is {TTIC49}

Our challenge this week is from Erica :-) paper crafter extraordinaire!  Her challenge to us this week:

Throughout the series Bella discusses a lot of homes. She spends a lot of time at home, maybe not her home, but if the saying is true, it is home to her. This challenge is pretty simple. Make a craft based on either a home discussed in the series or what means home to you. Here are some of the houses discussed in the book...
Charlie's house: unchanged since Renee moved out. I always remember her discussing the yellow cabinets in the kitchen. Kind of small, a sort of bachelor pad with a bit of an outdated woman's touch.

The Cullen's house: Giant windows, open, white, three stories, a mix of modern and classic
The house on Isel Esme
Edward and Bella's cottage: my personal favorite, small, a mix of styles, stone floors, small garden, fireplace, think Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Billy Black's small but welcoming home.

Comment portion: If you could build your dream home, what would it be like?

For this challenge:  I channeled those yellow cabinets in Charlie's home, the ones that are unchanged from Bella's childhood.  The background is embossed aluminum foil - colored with alcohol inks (it reminds me of those old tin ceilings!).  I paired the yellow (inspired by the cabinets) with red and the new shade from SU - Bermuda Blue!   Stamps are from Unity Kit of the Month (I believe this was the August 09 KOTM).   I was going to go with something a bit different - clean and simple (much simpler) but sat down in my stamp room and this was what came out.  The heart is on red CS and red dsp, and I used dimensionals to "make it pop".

My dream home?  I used to think it was an ocean side home ... but seeing the havoc hurricanes bring, I've changed my mind.  What sounds *perfect* to me?  A big home in the mountains ... maybe Tennesee or Georgia! I'd love it to be out west, but I could never tolerate the cold winters! Ooooooh, and a big kitchen :-) and a maid!
