There is always a lot of focus on Christmas in our industry this time of year, as that is what the majority of the population celebrates. However, this month's blog hop is dedicated to those that celebrate winter holidays other than Christmas. Create a project that celebrates Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or some other winter holiday as we embrace everyone's beliefs in a celebration of diversity through paper crafting.
I have two projects to share with you celebrating two diverse holidays: the winter solstice and las posada.
Up first is my card for Winter Solstice - the "first day of winter". Wikipedia describes it this way:
The winter solstice occurs exactly when the Earth's axial tilt is farthest away from the sun at its maximum of 23° 26'. Though the winter solstice lasts only an instant in time, the term is also colloquially used as midwinter or contrastingly the first day of winter to refer to the day on which it occurs. More evident to those in high latitudes, this occurs on the shortest day, and longest night, and the sun's daily maximum position in the sky is the lowest.[1] The seasonal significance of the winter solstice is in the reversal of the gradual lengthening of nights and shortening of days. Depending on the shift of the calendar, the winter solstice occurs on December 21 or 22 each year in the Northern Hemisphere, and June 20 or 21 in the Southern Hemisphere.[2]
Look closely, the snowflake is cut from a diet coke can. The Papertrey Ink products used are Aqua Mist and Dark Chocolate Cardstock, Dark Chocolate Ink, and stamp set Signature Christmas. I thought the colors were fun for the "longest day of the year".
My second card is for the spanish celebration of the Christmas season known as Las Posadas. Wikipedia - Las Posadas is a nine day celebration beginning on Dec. 16th and ending on Dec. 25th. Friends gather together and this is a card for the last day of the celebration.
Papertrey Ink produts used include Pure Poppy cardstock and the stamp set Signature Christmas.
Fantastic cards!!! :)
